Hooked on Books! The Whatsits join many other author/illustrators, (including Brianna Caplan Sayres, Suzanne Kaufman and Toni Yuly) for a celebration of reading for children from infancy to primary grades, in a fun, kid-friendly, literacy program for young families. Participants will enjoy a variety of activities that support literacy: puppet show, storytelling, showcase of local children's authors and illustrators, crafts, a nutritious snack, and a sing-a-long. Open to everyone and no charge. The Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 East Mercer Way, Mercer Island, WA. (206) 232-7115. 2-5 p.m. Free.

Washington State Book Awards/Scandiuzzi Book Award Winners' Panel at Eagle Harbor Books at 4pm. This panel will include this year's Scandiuzzi Book Award winners Leslye Walton, Dana Simpson, and Jennifer K. Mann, and will be moderated by previous WSBA winner, George Shannon. This event is aimed at aimed at parents, caregivers, teachers, librarians, writers, and anyone interested in children's literature. Dana Simpson will also be at the bookstore at 3 pm to meet with the graphic novel group.

Illustrators Day at University Bookstore. Ben Clanton (1-2pm) and Wendy Wahman (2-3pm) will be reading and drawing. Lots of fun illustrators in this line up!

Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association annual trade show, Portland, OR. 12 p.m. Elizabeth Rose Stanton, featured author, will speak about her new picture book, Peddles at the "Hold On, I'm Coming" lunch.
